2010 Buick LaCrosse and 2010 Buick Lucerne Make Most Comfortable Cars Under $30,000

August 8th, 2010

Multi-zone automatic climate control, heated/cooled seats, power window shades . . . today’s mainstream cars offer more comfort-enhancing touches than yesterday’s luxo-barges. Still, the basic foundations of comfortable transportation — road, rail or air — are a smooth, quiet ride and a just-right seat. So those are the factors we focused on when putting together the list of the 10 Most Comfortable Cars Under $30,000. Not so long ago, such a list might have been populated exclusively by large, unwieldy, couch-like cars. Today, suspension and platform advancements have mitigated the...

GM Made the Right Decision in Keeping the 2010 Buick LaCrosse

August 7th, 2010

When General Motors launched its all-new 2010 Buick LaCrosse last year, it was the perfect building block needed to help rejuvenate the aging Buick division, and with models like the fully loaded CXS, the Buick LaCrosse continues to show its presence in the midsize luxury sedan segment. Having been named the Autotropolis Car of the Year for 2010, the second-generation Buick LaCrosse continues to impress following a 600-mile venture that included stints in Miami’s beloved stop-and-go traffic and a five-hour jaunt up I-95. With the ability to comfortably tackle such a mix of driving, it’s clear that Buick really did its...

Prepare to be Amazed by the 2010 GMC Terrain

August 6th, 2010

A bold chrome grille dominates the front end of the new GMC Terrain, along with an integrated spoiler and a set of dominating headlights. From the side, both front and rear fenders bulge out in the extreme, while the wrap-around-look rear glass and chrome trim add a considerable degree of elegance. This is one good-looking rig! The interior is equally attractive, with a control panel that would seem right at home in one of GM’s premium-priced models. There are bucket seats up front, and the split-folding rear bench has 10 inches of sliding fore-and-aft travel for optimum passenger or cargo room, depending...

Study: One-Third of Drivers Don’t Know What This Dashboard Light Means

August 1st, 2010

Remember the Ford Explorer/Firestone tire debacle from a decade ago? Thousands of the ‘utes rolled-over and much of the blame fell on insufficiently inflated tires, costing the Blue Oval billions of dollars to replace the tires on just about every Explorer still left on the road. The other fallout from Explorer-gate (or Firestone-gate) was institution of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System that’s now a legal standard on every car and truck built since 2008. TPMS sensors constantly measure the pressure in all four tires, and when one or more tires is more than 25 percent below the recommended amount, a light illuminates...

World’s Most Expensive Car Goes On Public Display

August 1st, 2010

Now you can see the world’s most expensive car, a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic that sold for more than $30 million earlier this year, for yourself. The mega-expensive car is going on display at the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, Calif., about an hour’s drive north of Los Angeles. The museum, specializing in Art Deco and streamline eras cars, says the Bugatti will be on display for a limited time. Just how limited, they didn’t say. “I am honored to have the opportunity to display the Bugatti Atlantic at our Art Deco museum,” said Peter Mullin, founder of the Mullin Automotive...
